This pilgrimage follows the path of St. Ignatius of Loyola to the sites most closely linked to his life, tracing the path he followed as a soldier, pilgrim and the principal founder of the Society of Jesus.
Seriously injured by cannon fire while fighting in the Battle of Pamplona in 1521, he was sent home to his family in Loyola to recover from his wounds, where he was forced to endure several painful surgeries to heal his shattered leg, undergoing a lengthy convalescence as a result. While confined, he immersed himself in the study of the lives of the saints, becoming determined as a result to set off on pilgrimage to Jerusalem and the Holy Land in order to dedicate himself to the preaching of the Gospel and the conversion of the infidels. Along the way, he experienced a profound and lasting conversion, leading him to abandon his previous way of life as a soldier and found the Company of Jesus (the Jesuits), dedicated to teaching and the defense of the Christian Faith.
