Explore the cultural wealth of northern Spain with this cultural itinerary that explores the highlights along three of the Camino de Santiago routes.

Your journey begins near the French border town of Hondarribia, on the Camino del Norte, the Northern Way to Santiago that follows the Spain’s northern coast. Stunning natural beauty accompanies you the entire way: deep valleys; rolling, green meadows and lush forests; and towering cliffs overlooking the stunning coastline on the Bay of Biscay and the coast of the Cantabrian Sea. Make your way on foot through bustling urban centers and enchanting fishing villages, past rustic farmhouses along peaceful country lanes, immersing yourself in a rich symbiosis of landscapes, customs, culture, monuments and ancient buildings.

Upon reaching the coastal city of Santander, you will abandon the Northern Way and head south to the famous Camino Francés, the French Way to Santiago, along the Camino Primitivo, the Primitive Way. First, you will stop to visit the city of Oviedo, capital of the Principality of Asturias, and the starting point of the first-ever pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in AD 840. Upon reaching León, you join the so-called French Way, the path followed for centuries by pilgrims from the center and north of Europe. From here you will make your way across the wheat fields and moors of León, wander through the hills and vineyards of the Bierzo region, and end your journey amidst the misty, green valleys of Galicia, Spain’s Celtic region , before arriving in Santiago de Compostela, the final resting place of St. James and home to one of the most magnificent cathedrals in all of Spain.
